MIKKI STRIPPING KNIVES

FOR FINE COATS (red knife)

COARSE COATS (blue knife)

Grooming is essential to maintain the health and wellbeing of your dog.  It is also a great way to bond with your pet.

Just a few minutes each day is all it takes to keep your pet's coat looking shiney and healthy.

Stripping knives are used to remove old top coat and to scrape out dull undercoat to reveal the true beauty of your breed.

REMOVING DULL UNDERCOAT

If you do not remove the undercoat on many breeds, it can make your dog's coat look dirty and lifeless due to the undercoat being soft, downy and dull.

By using the mikki stripping knives, you can remove this dull undercoat and reveal the true texture and shine of your dog's top coat.

Stand behind your dog or to the side for large breeds with your dog's head facing away from you.

Lay the knife almost flat to your dog's coat with the smooth side of the teeth facing towards you.

Using a small 1-2 inch long, coming action, scrape towards you in the direction of the coat in small strokes, making sure you penetrate into the top coat to catch the fluffy undercoat in the teeth of the stripping knife.

Start on the top of the head and work your way through the coat in small sections so that you remove the majority of the dull undercoat and just see the amazing results.

I usually always start scraping out my schnauzers undercoat with the Coarse Blue Knife first as the teeth are slightly wider apart which makes the scraping easier when there is a lot of undercoat to remove.  I then scrape through the coat again with the Fine Red knife to remove any remaining undercoat for a truly superb finish.

If you have a more difficult coat to manage or your dog has not been maintained for a while and the coat has become long and thick, it will probably be quite difficult to get a stripping knife through the coat.  In these circumstances, I would highly recommend using the Mars Coat King to take the coat length down and remove the bulk of the undercoat first.  These tools are amazing and I would not be without mine.  They are a real must have to prepare a coat ready for stripping or scraping and makes grooming so much quicker and easier for both you and your dog.

STRIPPING THE COAT

Mikki knives are also used to maintain the length of your dog's coat and remove old top coat to allow for new top coat to grow so that a healthy, shiney, even coat is maintained.

Hold the stripping knife with the smooth side of the blade facing you.  Again you should be stood behind or at the side of your dog with your dog's head facing away from you.

Start on the top of the head and use a combing action to gather small amounts of hair between the serrated teeth.

Hold the hair firmly in place with your thumb against the inside of the bevelled metal blade and pull the blade towards you to cut or pull the hair.

Take only small amounts each time and work down through your dogs body coat to achieve the desired look.

Finish by scraping through the coat to remove the dull undercoat.

Again, if you have a coat that is long or has not been maintained for a while, please use a coat king first to save yourself and your dog hours of unecessary grooming.

Mikki knives will give a lovely finish to the coat.
